Keeping Things Simple

One stress management
strategy is try not to get so busy, nor commit yourself to so many tasks and projects that you neglect to smell the roses.......otherwise
what's it all for anyhow.
Sometimes, life can be as simple or as complex as we choose to make it. Maybe we
don't have to be rushing around as much as we do; maybe we don't have to keep the house absolutely spotless; maybe
we don't have to take the kids to all those different activities quite so often; maybe we could get an extension on that
project deadline and maybe we don't have to get a second car the way the neighbours have.
Maybe we
could afford to take some time to pause and slow down a little, take some deep breaths, relaxe and rejuvenate
- and consider what's really important in our lifves. The older I get, the the more I have come to appreciate
how important it is to fill our lives with special moments. Every day we need to attempt to find something which makes us
smile and laugh with joy.
An excellent book that I have found, offering ssimple common-sense advice and strategies
for coping with stress is by Dr. Richard Carlson, titled “Don't Sweat The Small Stiuff”. He reminds us
that even though there are many events that happen in life over which we have no control - what we can control however, is
the outlook that we choose to adopt in dealing with those events.
More than one thousand
years ago, a Greek philosopher wrote "There is nothing good or bad in life, it is our thinking that makes it so".
It is our thoughts that we can control, once we start to become mindful of them. We can use our thoughts to either stress,
or de-stress ourselves.
So next time you find yourself stressing out in a traffic jam, fuming and agitating about
arriving somewhere a little late, you might perhaps ask yourself whether in the bigger scheme of things it's really worth
getting upset about.
By challenging and refuting some of the thinking that may be adding
unnecessary extra stress to your day, you may find yourself regaining that sense of inner well-being that at times has seemed
so elusive.
Thanks for taking the time to read this article on managing stress - I know that now-days, time
is one of the most precious things we have. I hope that perhaps it has served to remind you of a simple perspective on dealing
with stress. And I believe a key to positive stress management really is about keeping things simple. You can download this article, but on the condition please, that you quote the source as
